this was originally a child’s board book which i collaged with squares of paper from a shoe catalogue
i then painted a wash of gouache over everything which give a good surface for drawing with pencil

[i’d just begun experimenting with adding text to my drawings; it’s the only time (so far) that i used pencil instead of ink pen]

Your book and pencil drawings are very inspiring Rita
Great use of a board book
One of my favorite shapes to play with has been a hand shape…I have a little collection of board books that I keep meaning to work on 🙂

Thanks so much for that … the funny thing is I’ve been pondering using hand shapes as backgrounds in a sketchbook I’m currently working on – great minds think alike! =D

I love the way this came out! Was the book already spiral bound or did you do that yourself? My little boy has lots of board books that are falling apart that might be good for this…

Thank you; so glad you like it! Yes, it was already spiral bound, but there are places you can get this kind of binding done, so the sky’s the limit … =D
