if you’ve been keeping up with my recent photo diary posts, you would have seen this project in progress
i attended a workshop with sue dennis at warwick in queensland last month where we learned and/or developed lots of techniques
first we made ‘art cloth’ with layers of stencilling, stamping and painted cut and/or torn fusible web
after backing the decorated cloth with wadding, we added machine stitching and 2D and 3D broderie perse, as well as machine-stitched couching using various yarns
of course, my alter ego – stitchedupmama – had to add some crochet flowers …
we also made cords from twisted yarns and free motion zig zag machine stitching
fusible interfacing was then ironed on the back of the embellished cloth before we cut the cloth into ’tiles’ (after further reinforcing the whole piece with a fused fabric backing onto which we had stitched some pieces of velcro)
the wallhanging ‘frame’ sections also had velcro stitched down the centres
after the tiles were finished, i had fun playing around with different arrangements
the possibilities are endless!
They look wonderful Rita! Thanks for sharing the finished tiles with me.

Two techniques I forgot to mention were free motion stitching by machine on soluble fabric, and adding paint to the tiles after quilting them … <=)
