about

Our business is based in a converted garage / service station in St. Marys, Tasmania, Australia. In 2004/2005, my husband Ian (a highschool and tertiary teacher) did most of the work of transforming the disused building into a studio and gallery in his spare time.

In 2012 the building was repainted inside and out in two shades of grey, with white and red trims.20140514-154116.jpg

This is where I make, display and sell my own work (as well as other people’s quality handmade items), teach classes and host exhibitions of local artisans and travelling displays through Tasmanian Regional Arts.gone rustic studio + gallery sept 2012 - 7

[Before we bought this building, we rented an old church.  To find out more about this (and about my earlier textile works), click here.]

I also create art at home, especially the items made by hand which I work on during the evenings.  I create whenever I can, because I love it and it’s integral to my life – has been ever since I can remember. I teach classes at our studio and gallery, as well as doing my own stuff. I enjoy putting my creations “out there” as exhibition entries and on the net.  I try to communicate something through my work, and often there is a hidden as well as an obvious message.Collage - random years, infusion - rita summers 2014

  12. Thank you for your generous comments on my photos and for choosing to follow my postings. I’ve enjoyed a quick tour round your site but I’m frustrated by the fact that when I click on the individual galleries I get only a solid black rectangle. Am I not doing something?

    • It’s a pleasure, Louis – your photos are stunning! The black rectangles are slide shows, so you just need to give them a bit of time to load. Hope you visit again soon! =D

  13. Thanks for your kind comment on my blog. Exciting and scary times to open my own gallery. I love these leaves in the picture above. Have you sewn on paper or cloth? I incorporate a lot of sewing on paper in my collage pieces and with my watercolor paintings.

    • Great to meet you here on my blog, and thank you! The leaves are made using the ‘fabric’ from used teabags … I drink black tea (no milk, no sugar), and dry the teabags in the sun before emptying, ironing, cutting, fusing and stitching them … =D
