i made this quilt to further explore the techniques i used in another quilt called odyssey

i carved stamps to print some of the fabrics; other techniques included dye paints, rubbings and foiling (purchased printed fabrics were also used)

the top section features applique using painted fusible web layered onto fabric

the background ‘sky’ features the same technique

i hand-quilted the whole thing with metallic bobbin thread

a photo i took of a roofless building on maria island was the inspiration for the design, shown below as part of a spread in the journal i made to accompany the quilt

i used the same photo in another journal called lifting the veil

  1. Keeping a journal and quilting have been part of my life for a long time. Visiting Tasmania also… so can you imagine my pleasure in “discovering” your very inspiring blog ? I really admire your art, the improvisation and planning that go into it. Simply beautiful !

    • Thank you Barbara! Yes, do make a journal – it’s very rewarding, and if you make the pages on a separate sheet before glueing it in, you don’t have to worry about mistakes in the book itself (just a little tip from me to save you stress) … =D
