another art journal based on maria island (on the east coast of tasmania, australia)
this journal features my own fabrics which incorporate pastel rubbing; printing using hand-carved blocks; painted dyes and foiling
it also includes my original photographs (digital), found fabrics, objects and other items and text
the journal was made in conjunction with a quilt made from leftovers my own fabrics as described above

I really love your journals. Journals are a brilliant way to see an artist’s work, and I often find working in a journal or a book preferable to working on a canvas or a large surface. On the other hand, I really like working in those ways too. But these images are excellent! 🙂

Thank you! Yes, I agree, journals are really great to work on and in. I can definitely see that I’ll be doing more of them! =D

The journals are quite personal and emotional … Maria Island has links to both sides of my husband’s family so these are an expression of that … thank you for liking this! =D

What comes first, the text, the idea of the object, or does the whole concept just sort of grow? I just love your work, I’m fascinated by it!

Mostly my artwork starts with an idea – sometimes after I ‘play’ with materials, sometimes with a photograph, sometimes a process I want to try. I try not to analyse it too much, and ‘go with the flow’ … =D

Sounds a bit like my writing process… except it’s all in my head!
