everyone seems to be smiling today

this is my second contribution to the sketchbook project

i deconstructed and rebound the standard book that was sent to me

sketchbook 2013 - rita summers 1the cover and binding include a drawing i had done a while back and didn’t know what to do with sketchbook 2013 - rita summers 2for the pages, i started by making doodles on the backs of old business cards

then somehow they became drawings with little stories

i used double-sided tape to put it all together

    • Hi Kartika – Thanks so much for your lovely comment! I agree – using materials which are often thrown out, and not thinking ahead too much has become a very satisfying way to do art … šŸ™‚

  1. I am especially fond of the “he knew all about it because a little bird told him” page! The entire thing is so light-hearted and lovely.

    • Thanks very much, Micah! I was quite unwell when I did most of these – my daughter teased me that I was hallucinating! I was just trying to take my mind off how I was feeling by having a bit of fun šŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Yes, please give yourself a second chance – look at it as playing or doodling, and that makes drawing much more enjoyable. You never know what might come out of it! =D

    • Yes, it was rather hard to send it off, especially as Iā€™d only just finished it! But I can still enjoy it digitally, and the bonus is that lots of people can look at it in the brooklyn art library and when the books tour around the usa and other countries ā€“ great way to get your artwork seen! =D
